Read The Benefits of GPS

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

A large number of individuals unfortunately acquire GPS systems since they appear to be a great idea at that time but never really get the most out of their buck. Very few expenditures on technology are worth it if you aren’t going to at least get your money’s worth. Auto navigation devices are great when you find yourself lost in the forest so to speak, however these may also assist you in finding alternate ways to travel when traffic is congested on your traditional journey to the mall. They can help you to circumvent roadways that have been shut down for maintenance, or even locate a fast way around work which is being carried out along your way. These devices can also help you find better ways to events and such than you may have been aware existed previously and these aren’t commanding anywhere near the cost that they brought in a mere two years ago.

One thing you must bear in mind while contemplating a brand new vehicle or a new auto navigation system for your current vehicle is the amount that you think you will actually utilize the system. Even if you save it for emergency use alone, it is highly likely that during an emergency this nifty device would be well worth ten times what you originally paid for it since it may save jobs, time, or maybe even lives (specifically if you are lost and searching for a hospital). For me, it’s difficult to place a price on the comfort that owning a tool like this could deliver although it’s definitely worth the 500-1,000 dollars that is presently being asked. Remember that at the time the systems first hit the market, 1,000 dollars was on the ultra low end.

If you never use this system and only get it since it appears nifty, then you’re really not receiving value. High tech equipment is only great if it is useful to a person. Sitting there unused it is not helping anyone and is basically a useless expenditure of cash but on the other end of the spectrum however, you have people like me. When I say ‘like me’ I speak for people that might become totally disoriented and frustrated trying to find a way from our drive on dark and moonless nights. My system isn’t the top of the line model that advertises an uncanny ability to help you parallel park the car, although it’s nice enough to show me exactly where I happen to be as well as ways to get the place I’m going from there.

Beyond that, my system I own does not require tricky folds or my pulling off on the shoulder in order to read it. It speaks with me (and doesn’t lose it’s composure) and lets me know where exactly to go next, I truly enjoy that about the system. I don’t know about the rest of you, however map reading isn’t a thing I have ever been able to do. That reality may have something to do with the fact that it was not something I was ever terribly interested in. Combine it with my substandard observation of turning points and I was truly a bad driver. Literally, I ended up lost at least once, if not twice per week before making the move into the new world of electronic navigation. Though I cannot promise that you will love the GPS device the same amount that I enjoy mine (all systems are not created equal), I can pretty much bet that the driving you do, specifically on extended road trips, would go much more smoothly than without one.
